Jeff Gordon Jeff Gordon was born in Vallejo, California, and raised in Pittsboro, Indiana. His first major career victories came in 1994 when he won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis, but his very first race was actually won at age 8 when he won the Quarter Midget championship in his hometown. Encouraged by his family to pursue his interest in racing, Gordon competed in races for his age group throughout his childhood and teenage years. | experience and be closer to the Midwest's racing center. By the age of 20, Gordon was already capturing the interest of the racing fans and the media. He was named a member of the All-American Team by the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association in 1990 and 1991. He began competition in the Busch Series in 1991 and posted second-place wins three times and one third-place win. Gordon was named Rookie of the Year in 1993. Gordon's other impressive career wins include the 1994 and 1997 Busch Clash, 1997 and 1999 Daytona 500, 1995 Winston Cup, 1997 Winston Million and Winston Cup, 1998 Winston Cup and Driver of the Year, 1998 Pepsi 400, 1994 and 1998 Coca-Cola 600, and his 50th career race in 2000 at Talladega. | |
